The current and widely accepted version of the product safety standard for electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use is the IEC 61010:2010. The wide scope of the standard covers the significant part of the industry. For example: in-vitro diagnostic medical devices, control devices interconnected to machinery, heaters and refrigerating systems and programable logical circuits.
The product specific hazards are covered by product standards (IEC 61010-2-x). These standards have to be used in conjunction with IEC 61010-1 basic safety standard. For example the IEC 61010-2-101 contains special requirements for In-vitro Diagnostic Medical devices.
